The Infrastructure Committee on Aug. 19 approved a capital project to reconstruct Southwest Martin Drive from 40 First to 40 Second Street, including replacement of a storm-inlet box. Public Works Director Steve Groen said the work covers an industrial block west of Frito Lay and adjacent to Bimbo's Bakery.
Groen said the road is an aging concrete surface in poor condition and the city will maintain access to industrial properties during construction. He said the project is part of the 2025 pavement-management program and that the plan is to bid and commence construction this year.
Council members asked whether Bimbo and Frito Lay would be affected; Groen replied access will be maintained and staff will meet with businesses as needed.
The motion to approve was moved, seconded and passed 3-0.
Outcome: project approved and will be put out for bid; staff to coordinate access with businesses during construction.
