Golf operations report higher rounds and revenue; board raises concerns about league tee-time access and superintendent vacancy

Golf staff told the board that rounds and revenue are up year to date compared with the same period in 2024, and that several projects are in procurement, including an irrigation RFP for one course. Staff said total revenue for the year to date was about $4.2 million and that July produced roughly $851,000; staff said the department was about $250,000 ahead of where it was at this point last year. Staff also reported a pending RFP for irrigation work at one course and recent capital work on bunkers and fairways. The golf superintendent position is vacant; staff said interviews were ongoing and applicants came from inside and outside the region. Board members and frequent players pressed staff about league scheduling and tee-time practices. One board member said changing tee-marker colors and tightening limits on how many leagues can hold guaranteed times might help pace of play and public access; another warned against offering paid premium access that would create the appearance of preferential treatment. "I don't want to create the optics of we're saying, well, if someone can pay for it, we're gonna give them an advantage," one board member said during discussion. No formal policy changes were adopted; staff said they will continue to evaluate league policies over the winter and bring recommendations back to the board.
