Historic Resources Commission directs staff to send letter supporting Trinity Episcopal nomination

The Lawrence Historic Resources Commission voted unanimously Aug. 21 to direct staff to prepare a letter of support for the nomination of Trinity Episcopal Church to the State Register of Historic Places. The commission heard that one of the statewide nominations is within city limits and that, because Lawrence is a Certified Local Government, the commission’s review and comment were requested. Commission members said they read the nomination material and found the church’s history and architecture notable. The motion to have staff prepare a letter of support passed on a roll call vote with all six commissioners voting yes. The commission did not take formal action on a second, out‑of‑city nomination; staff said commissioners could also comment on that property if they chose. The vote directs staff to draft and send a support letter; any further conditions or edits were left to staff discretion unless the commission chooses to reconvene on the item. The commission moved on to the rest of its agenda after taking the vote.
