At the Aug. 19 Library Board meeting the Friends of the Library representative reported a $2,000 grant from the FM Area Foundation, discussed August and fall programming support, and announced the fall book sale is scheduled for Oct. 23–25 with a bag sale on Oct. 25.
The Friends representative said the group funded 1 Book 1 Community giveaways and Tuesday for Toddlers and helped underwrite summer programming. She told the board the $2,000 grant arrived in late June or early July and they were discussing how best to use it. The Friends also asked for donations of novels and children's books to support the fall book sale and noted one board position remains open.
Separately in the financial summary presented at the meeting, staff noted several memorial and donor gifts in July: a $125 memorial donation in memory of a former employee Diane Briggs; $205.05 in payroll monthly gifts; a $100 IRA gift from Karen Olsen; and a $3,030 donation that staff described as including a $1,000 collection donation in memory of Dorothea West designated for large-print materials. Staff also credited Friends funding for program expenses such as $2,500 for Tuesday for Toddlers and $825 for the Homeward Brown program tied to the summer reading challenge.
These gifts and grants were presented as financial updates and acknowledgments; no board action was required.
