Library reports 2,203 summer-reading registrations; author visit and fall events scheduled

Library staff reported 2,203 summer-reading registrations (just over 1,000 completed challenges) and previewed fall events including an author visit Sept. 29 at Concordia College, AARP programs at Carlson Library and a Mario Kart tournament.
At the Aug. 19 Library Board meeting staff member Megan delivered the staff report and said the final summer-reading registration total was 2,203, with just over 1,000 completed challenges.
Megan told the board those totals were "just a little bit down from last year, but within a couple 100, so nothing that we're worried about." She also distributed brochures for the "1 Book 1 Community" events, which run from September through October, and said the author visit is scheduled for Sept. 29 at Concordia College.
Megan reviewed upcoming programs: a Hardanger fiddle concert on Sept. 6, a Troll Story Time on Sept. 13, the Tea Time Book Club reading The Bell on the Lake in September (staff provided giveaway copies), two AARP-partnered programs at Carlson Library (one on brain health and another on home accessibility for aging), and an August Mario Kart tournament that concludes a series of summertime Mario Kart nights with two age groups and prizes.
When a board member asked whether the library gives free copies of the book away, Megan responded, "We do have some," and explained giveaway copies were supplied by the Friends of the Library while additional circulating copies exist with wait lists.
