Fargo police announced arrests in several recent violent incidents and said one homicide suspect remains at large during a press briefing on matters that occurred in early August. Lieutenant Nate Nieman of the Fargo Police Department provided details on the arrests and asked the public to call with tips.
The announcement matters because the cases include an in-custody suspect in a downtown bank robbery, suspects arrested in two homicides and an assault, and an ongoing search for a murder suspect the department says could be in the community.
Lieutenant Nate Nieman said the department arrested Jay Barker in connection with a Wells Fargo bank robbery downtown and that Barker was taken into custody “within hours.” Nieman said the Fargo PD is working with the FBI and that investigators “can’t release any further details at this time.” He also said detectives have referred several cases to the state’s attorney’s office for formal charging.
On the killing of Azine Holmes in the 50 block of Broadway, Nieman said the department is still looking for Tyrique Jones and asked anyone with information to contact the Fargo Police Department at (701) 241-5777 or submit an anonymous tip by texting “Fargo PD” to 847411. Nieman described the suspect sought in a separate Sixth Avenue North shooting as “a scruffy looking white male with blonde hair, wearing a red shirt and blue jeans in his twenties,” and again asked for tips.
Nieman said Seondre Douglas was arrested in the murder of Elijah Hughes, which occurred at 4702 16th Avenue South, and that the case has been referred to the state’s attorney for charging. He said investigators identified Tobias Jamal Walker, 19, with no permanent address, in an assault from the 300 block of Broadway; Walker was located and arrested in Moorhead, Minnesota, and is in custody at the Clay County Jail pending extradition and referral to the Cass County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Nieman described a separate stabbing reported at about 12:41 a.m. on Aug. 11 in the 1300 block of 30½ Street South. He said officers found an adult male who was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries; the Red River Valley SWAT team assisted and arrested the suspect, identified as Boim Don, 33, a Fargo resident. “Don…was arrested without incident,” Nieman said, and was booked into the Cass County Jail on charges including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and outstanding warrants.
During questions from reporters, the department declined to release victim names, saying it “usually” does not release them. Chief (name not provided) urged the homicide suspect Tyrique Jones to turn himself in and said, "The best thing for Tyrique Jones to do is to turn himself in to the police department here. Nothing bad will happen to him. We will make sure that his safety is taken care of, and we'll go through the criminal justice process." The chief and Nieman both asked for community cooperation and credited technology and interagency partnerships for recent arrests.
No formal charges were announced in the briefing beyond referrals to the state’s attorney’s offices. Nieman said outstanding investigative and charging decisions are being handled in coordination with prosecutors and, in some cases, federal partners.
The department repeated how to provide tips: call (701) 241-5777 or text “Fargo PD” with information to 847411. No additional court dates or charging documents were released during the briefing.
