Fargo police seek public help identifying two after downtown aggravated assault leaves man critical

Lieutenant Nate Nieman, Criminal Investigations Unit commander for the Fargo Police Department, said detectives are investigating an aggravated assault that left a roughly 55-year-old Fargo man in critical condition after he was found injured in the 300 block of Broadway North on Aug. 3. "On 08/05/2025, the Fargo Police Department was notified that the victim's injuries were life threatening. The Criminal Investigations Division immediately began formally investigating the incident," Nieman said. Police said the Red River Valley Dispatch Center received the first call about the injured man at 3:07 a.m. and that the Cass County Sheriff's Office, the Fargo Fire Department and Sanford Ambulance all responded. The victim was transported to a local hospital, and family members later contacted Fargo police to ask whether the man had been involved in an earlier downtown shooting; police said the assault is a separate incident. Detectives reviewed surveillance footage and "confirmed that the victim was assaulted in the 300 block of Broadway North," Nieman said, adding that investigators have still and video images of two people they want to identify and will push photos through the department's social media. "Anyone with any information, please contact the Fargo Police Department through tip 411 or our tip line," Nieman said. Nieman also told reporters the department is acquiring additional video but will not release material that could compromise the investigation until suspects are located. Fargo police said they do not currently believe this assault is related to other shootings that occurred earlier that night but continue to investigate all leads. The department asked anyone who recognizes the people in the released images to contact the dispatch center or tip line so detectives can properly identify and locate those individuals.
