Fargo police arrest man in one Aug. 3 homicide, search continues for second suspect

FARGO, N.D. — Fargo police on Monday announced the arrest of 20-year-old Seondre Douglas in Jamestown and said evidence recovered overnight connected him to the Aug. 3 killing of Elijah Hughes, 20, while investigators continue searching for 19-year-old Tyrique Jones in the related killing of 20-year-old Azim Holmes.

Captain Alfeldt of the Fargo Police Department said Douglas was located in Jamestown Sunday evening and arrested after a brief foot chase; detectives served an arrest at 12:20 p.m. Monday at the Cass County Jail. "Late last night, evidence from the scene connected Douglas to the murder of Elijah Hughes," Alfeldt said.

The department said Douglas has no permanent address and was arrested on two open warrants issued last week by the Cass County State's Attorney's Office — one for felony reckless endangerment and one for felony aggravated assault — stemming from a July 22 shooting in South Fargo. During Douglas's arrest detectives collected multiple items of evidence, and investigators later tied him to a separate reckless endangerment incident on July 6 in the 10 block of Broadway.

Police said they are still trying to apprehend Tyrique Jones, wanted in the Aug. 3 killing of Azim Holmes in the 50 block of Broadway. "We are still in the process of apprehending suspect 19 year old Tyrique Jones for the murder of Azim Holmes on August 3. He is considered to be armed and dangerous," Alfeldt said, urging anyone with information to contact the Fargo tip line or Tip411.

Captain Alfeldt and Chief Cybalski described extensive investigative work and interagency cooperation. Alfeldt said 37 sworn and seven civilian employees from the department's Criminal Investigations (Bridal Investigations Division in transcript) worked a combined 648.75 hours over the 58 hours following the shootings and that detectives had executed 13 search warrants related to the cases. "I want to acknowledge the outstanding teamwork within every division of the Fargo Police Department and to extend our appreciation for the incredible partnership with every law enforcement agency within the Fargo Moorhead area," Alfeldt said, crediting the Cass County State's Attorney's Office, Jamestown Police Department and federal partners.

On victim conditions, Alfeldt said two people were killed and two others were injured in the incident in the 50 block of Broadway; one of the injured remained hospitalized in critical condition while the other was treated and released. The two homicide victims were both 20 years old.

When asked how authorities located Douglas in Jamestown, Alfeldt said aspects of that investigative work are part of an active investigation and declined to provide operational details. Chief Cybalski said the warrant for Jones remains active in national systems and that federal partners are assisting in locating him.

Authorities The department said warrants were issued by the Cass County State's Attorney's Office and that entries remain active in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and related law enforcement systems.

What happens next The Cass County State's Attorney's Office will pursue charges against Douglas for the incidents described, the department said. The search for Jones was ongoing at the time of the press conference.
