Gary Lorenz sworn in as Fargo fire chief, vows community‑focused leadership

Gary Lorenz was sworn in as fire chief of the City of Fargo during the commission meeting. The mayor administered both the city oath of office and the fire department oath; Lorenz had previously served in Fargo for 28 years and spent the prior seven years as fire chief in Grand Forks.
"I look forward to being a part of the continued growth of this organization," Lorenz said, noting he was an assistant chief when he left Fargo earlier in his career. "Coming back to Fargo, a lot has changed in seven years. The city has grown a lot. The department has grown a lot. And I look forward to being part of the team."
Mayor Mahoney congratulated Lorenz and said the department benefits from his return. Lorenz described a focus on reducing emergencies through public education and code enforcement and emphasized working with department members to meet that mission.
The commission offered their congratulations; Lorenz noted he expects to get to know many new faces in the organization and to maintain high levels of service to the community.
