City outlines plan to return Avenue Firehouse to 24/7 operation after fire; temporary housing proposed

Benny Parisi, acting fire chief, gave an update on the fire-damaged Avenue Firehouse. Parisi said investigators and insurance companies delayed immediate work after the fire, but an environmental firm tested the building for lead and asbestos and "that was all came back negative and clear." He said the first floor can still be used during daytime hours and that some members are responding from the location in daytime.
Because the facility currently cannot house personnel full-time, Parisi said crews are split between the city's other two firehouses for overnight coverage. He said the plan is to "fully repair and get that firehouse back open as soon as possible" and that the department is developing a plan to install temporary housing on-site so personnel can respond from the station 24/7.
City Administrator Joseph Donat thanked Chief Parisi for his oversight and said the city is working to return the station to full service. No timeline or budget estimate for full repairs was provided during the informational meeting.
