Planning board approves conversion of 175 Mansion Street to four‑family dwelling with departmental conditions

The City of Poughkeepsie Planning Board voted to grant site‑plan approval for a conversion of an existing single‑family dwelling at 175 Mansion Street into a four‑family building, provided the applicant resolves outstanding comments from city departments.

Applicant Shane Bartholomew and architect John Sullivan told the board they had submitted stormwater and engineering updates on August 13 and addressed nearly all engineering comments; the team added a stormwater management plan. The applicant confirmed construction work on the property is on hold pending planning approval.

During the meeting, board members asked for confirmation that proposed porch roofs would comply with the code’s porch requirements. The board chair emphasized compatibility with neighborhood porches and noted that porches should be roofs (not open decks) to limit accumulation and to maintain consistency with neighborhood character.

The board passed a resolution to grant site‑plan approval (file PB2025‑514) with the condition that “all city departments’ comments be addressed to those departments’ satisfaction.” The motion carried unanimously with no recorded abstentions.

The applicant was thanked for incorporating architectural detailing, including replicated corbels and other historic features, into front and side elevations. The board recorded that departmental approvals (fire, police, engineering) will be required before work resumes.
