Board swears in Jesse Preston as Mitchell County tax collector; deputy appointment also approved

The board also approved a nomination for deputy tax collector and administered the charge and oath for that office. The board’s motions to appoint both officials carried by unanimous voice vote.
During the oath, the chairman read the statutory charge authorizing the tax collector to collect taxes and to levy or sell property if necessary under state law; the appointee then recited the oath to support and maintain the constitutions and to faithfully discharge the duties of the office.
Commissioners noted absences among some members at the meeting and congratulated the newly sworn officials.
