The Mitchell County Board of Commissioners approved a civil‑engineering contract, not to exceed $10,000, to design parking‑lot circulation and drainage work tied to the new recreation center build‑out. County staff said the contract will produce site plans needed for paving bids and for coordinating drainage and driveway elevations where the lot interfaces with a building conversion and future concession area.
Staff told the board the design is a necessary precursor to striping, paving and minor grading that will eliminate grassy islands and improve vehicular movement. The engineering work was described as a cost‑to‑complete task delivered through a civil engineer affiliated with the county’s design firm; staff said the work should be completed within about a month of execution.
County Manager said the rec center grand opening is planned for the afternoon before the October commission meeting and that the public ribbon cutting will include a construction timeline video and catered food. Commissioners approved the engineering work and a separate motion to surplus an older 2018 Grand Caravan that staff said is uneconomical to repair.
