Herman said the department logged 1,532 calls for service in the prior month; approximately 240 were deputy‑initiated, resulting in 14 criminal cases, 31 arrests and seven citations. The department recorded 240 medical calls and 13 mental‑health calls in the month; Herman said staff are working to refine reporting by patrol area.
On grants and procurement, the board approved the sheriff’s office applying for and administering a Bureau of Justice Assistance Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) allocation of $14,732; Herman said the non‑competitive, population‑based grant would fund dispatcher and corrections training, crisis‑response training and two laptops for staff training. The board also authorized a two‑year agreement with PowerDMS for scheduling, policy and training software for a total contract ceiling shown in the packet as $38,700; Sheriff’s staff said the PowerDMS expense will be covered from law‑enforcement grant funds (SLFRF/COPS-type funds noted in discussion) and not from the general fund.
Both items were approved by the board. Herman said the training and software upgrades are intended to modernize dispatcher and corrections training and to support policy and scheduling functions for patrol and corrections staff.
