Council told Randall Memorial Library envelope repairs are complex; members ask for public project briefings

Council members received an update on an amended New York State Education Department library construction grant and an appropriation to fund exterior building‑envelope repairs at Randall Memorial Library.

President Melendez and council members said the project is large and complicated and urged the administration to provide public-facing brief presentations for major visible capital projects so residents following later can understand progress. "It's one of the biggest, most central buildings we have. It's an incredibly difficult building to do construction on," Melendez said, noting the project's long duration.

Committee members specifically called out the scope and costliness of window work and praised library capital‑projects manager Bree Harrison for overseeing the project. The administration said the project is proceeding as planned and not behind schedule, though no detailed timeline or new cost estimates were presented during the committee discussion.

The committee voted to approve the grant amendment and appropriation; Melendez disclosed his role as the council representative to the library board before the vote.

Councilors asked the administration to consider brief presentations at future committee meetings to help the public and council members follow large, complex capital projects. The administration agreed to consider that request and to provide written updates when appropriate.
