The Pinole City Council on Sept. 2 directed the city attorney to approve a settlement in the national prescription-opioid class-action litigation, the council reported after reconvening from closed session. City officials said the city attorney will provide a more substantive report to the council and public after the agreement is executed and additional details become available. The council provided the direction during a closed-session item on anticipated litigation. The closed session authority listed to justify the discussion was Government Code section 54956.9(d)(4), which covers anticipated litigation. No financial terms or payout amounts were disclosed at the meeting, and officials said there was no reportable action beyond the council direction at that time. Mayor Cameron Sasai read the reconvened session report at the open meeting: "Item 4b, the city council directed the city attorney to approve the settlement in the class action opioid litigation, and the city attorney will provide a more substantive report after the agreement is executed and more information is available." The council made no further public action on the item Monday.
