Council amends DPW budget to cover storm-related overtime, approves 5-0

The Binghamton City Council unanimously approved introductory ordinance O25-49 on Aug. 13 to amend the 2025 Department of Public Works (DPW) budget to cover overtime and material costs tied to storm cleanup and anticipated future overtime. Council member Hotchkiss moved to adopt the ordinance, saying DPW workers logged large amounts of overtime cleaning up storm damage and the adjustment will cover those expenses and anticipated needs for the remainder of the year. “This is to account for the large amounts of overtime that DPW's workers had experienced in cleaning up all the storm damage,” Hotchkiss said. The roll-call vote recorded five ayes, no nays and two absences, and the council president announced the motion passed 5-0. The ordinance transfers budget lines to increase overtime and materials for DPW to keep crews on schedule during recovery and routine operations for the rest of 2025.
