Village outlines crack-sealing pilot and paving plans for Magnolia Circle and four streets

The Village Board heard details Sept. 2 about a planned crack-sealing pilot on Magnolia Circle and forthcoming paving on several streets. Public works staff said the Magnolia Circle work will use a hot-tar application in cracks followed by a sealant layer intended to prevent water infiltration and subsequent freeze-thaw damage. Staff emphasized the method differs from traditional oil-and-stone resurfacing and said work would be limited to one lane at any time with signage in place. Staff described the work as a pilot intended to extend the life of the pavement: "This is a little more advanced. It's a hot tar application just in the cracks only, and then it gets a sealant on top of it. So there's no mess." They told the board that, if effective, the process could save years on a larger paving project. Roads listed for full paving later this season include Laura Lane, Clearwater Street, Traver Street and Willis Avenue. Bids have come in and staff said they will review them and select contractors with the goal of completing the work before winter.
