The Cranston Planning Commission unanimously appointed planning technician James Ray as an administrative officer at its Sept. 2 meeting. Director Ashman explained that each member of the planning staff is appointed as an administrative officer so they may sign recommendations and perform duties independently.
Why it matters: the appointment allows Mr. Ray to sign his own recommendations to the commission going forward and represents an administrative housekeeping action following his recent hire.
Director Ashman moved the nomination, and the commission voted in favor by voice vote. Commissioners welcomed Mr. Ray and congratulated him on his new role.
Next steps: Mr. Ray will begin signing staff recommendations and participate in planning-department duties as an appointed administrative officer.
