Councilwoman reports: primary canvass posted; land‑use change for 105 E. 1000 N. fails 3‑2; Broadway diagonal parking under review
Summary
Councilwoman Manzion told the Planning Commission on Aug. 27 that the county primary canvass is posted, a land‑use change for 105 East 1000 North failed 3‑2 at a recent council meeting, and diagonal parking in front of Hometown Bakery is being reviewed because it may restrict emergency passage.

Councilwoman Manzion reported to the Planning Commission on Aug. 27 that the county has completed the primary election canvass and results are available on the county clerk's website and the city's site. She also summarized recent city council action on a land‑use application for a parcel at 105 East 1000 North, saying the land‑use change "failed 3 to 2" and therefore did not move forward.
Manzion also raised a downtown circulation item closely tied to several commission discussions: diagonal parking on Broadway in front of Hometown Bakery. She said diagonal parking there "leaves the street a little bit too small in the middle for emergency vehicles," and that property owners and city staff will meet to seek a solution. Manzion noted the city now owns some property on Broadway and that the city is working on a general plan for the Broadway area with landowners, which could address parking and future development.
Commissioners and Manzion compared the Broadway parking and zoning issues with the mixed‑use discussions heard earlier in the meeting and said the city's Broadway plan work may resolve longer‑term questions about parking, parking lots or structures, and future development patterns.
Manzion's remarks were presented as a report; no formal action by the Planning Commission was recorded on these items during the Aug. 27 meeting.
