Council delays police-dispatch transfer to Sept. 2 while county finalizes written agreement

The Helena-West Helena City Council agreed Tuesday to move the proposal for the county to take over police dispatch services to its Sept. 2 meeting so that the county can complete a written agreement. Mayor Pro Tem told the council the county attorney requested the delay to finalize the agreement and that both the city council and the county’s quorum court must approve the same written agreement before the transfer can take effect. The county quorum court will consider the agreement on Sept. 9, one week after the city council’s planned vote. No draft agreement was presented at the meeting; the item was continued to allow legal staff to produce the written instrument for council consideration.
