The Rosenberg City Council approved a package of fleet purchases and a budget amendment to pre-order vehicles and equipment for fiscal year 2026. Resolution No. 3918 authorizes the purchase of two Freightliner M21-6 12-yard dump trucks from Doggett Freightliner of South Texas, LLC for $314,899.30 using the TIPS cooperative purchasing contract. Rigo, the presenting staff member, told the council one of the trucks replaces a unit due in fiscal year 2026 and the second is being added because the city’s remaining large dump truck needs major repairs. "Acquiring this additional unit will significantly enhance the operational efficiency and ensure essential services are maintained without disruption," Rigo said. Council discussed truck size options (12-yard vs. larger) and limits from local bridge weight restrictions and alley access. Staff recommended two 12-yard units as appropriate for city operations; they said larger trucks could trigger weight and axle requirements. Later, staff presented Resolution No. R-3923 (budget amendment 25-04) to appropriate $522,000 to preorder four vehicles, one mini-excavator and one dump truck from the fleet replacement list, and $160,000 from the general fund fund balance to purchase a public works dump truck, for a total budget amendment of $682,000. Louis, a staff member, said pre-ordering will help secure delivery timing for FY2026 replacements. Council voted unanimously to approve the purchases and the budget amendment. Staff noted that the fleet replacement fund will cover vehicles scheduled for replacement, while the $160,000 one-time purchase will be covered from general fund balance.
