Pecos City ratifies Park Hill contract for landfill permit work, moves forward on new landfill

Pecos City Council ratified an agreement with Park Hill for professional services to assist with the permit application for the city’s new landfill, located on approximately 151 acres about 11 miles southwest of town along I‑20.
Assistant City Manager Heather Ramirez told council the resolution formalizes work already under way; the permit process with the Texas regulatory authority typically takes two to three-and-a-half years. The city has been updating the community and budgeting for landfill permitting and earlier in the fiscal year had undertaken emergency work to open additional cells at the existing landfill because the current site is nearing capacity.
Councilman Graham moved to approve the ratification; Councilwoman Trujillo seconded. The motion passed by voice vote. Staff said the city will continue the permitting process, pursue required environmental and engineering studies and return to council with updates as the permit application proceeds.
