Pecos staff plans second public meeting for Bessie Haynes Park design; survey and two concepts coming

City staff provided an update Aug. 28 on the Bessie Haynes Park project, reporting that the initial public outreach generated 112 combined in-person and online responses and that two follow-up concepts will be presented at a second public meeting scheduled for Sept. 30.
Assistant staff explained the second meeting will be held at the Bessie Haynes Gym near the park site and will include visuals from the consultant (Half Associates) and a two-week online survey to gather additional community input. Staff expects a complete concept package to be ready for council review in November.
Top priorities identified in the initial outreach included active recreation and playgrounds (80 responses), passive recreation and pavilions/picnicking (84 responses), public-art/culture features (90 responses), and a demonstration garden (58 responses). Other ideas community members mentioned included outdoor volleyball courts with soft-surface, pickleball courts, walking trails, a swimming pool and state-of-the-art playground equipment.
Staff emphasized decisions will reflect community input and encouraged residents to attend the Sept. 30 meeting and complete the online survey when it is posted.
