Planning staff told the Elko County Planning Commission they plan to stop routine mailing of paper packets and instead send links to agendas and staff reports on the county website, in an effort to save postage and keep packets current. Commissioners agreed to try the approach, with the caveat that members who need printed materials can request them.
"The county commission is sent a link for all of their reports," Corey said, arguing the link method keeps reports live and up to date. Staff said legally packets will be provided at least three days before meetings and that staff would follow up with a text to confirm receipt. Commissioners asked that the chair continue to have a printed agenda for note-taking during meetings; staff agreed to provide scratch pads and printed agendas on request.
Separately, staff reported two vacancies on the planning commission and said they had reopened recruitment after one applicant withdrew. To keep the process clean, staff said they would present all applications at the same time and recommended the panel defer filling seats until a future meeting (September or October). Staff clarified that the final appointment occurs at the county commission level and the planning commission's role is advisory.
Commissioners also noted the recent deaths of former planning commissioners (Dave Gallien and Jack Larson) and asked staff to follow up on memorial or notification details.
