Elko CAB takes positions on multiple commission regulations: no position on coyote contests, supports several season and tag proposals

The Elko County advisory board recorded multiple positions Wednesday on draft commission regulations affecting hunting seasons, bag limits and permit processes.
On Commission Regulation 5.25 (coyote-hunting contest regulations), the CAB voted to take no position. "We've gone on record opposing any regulations to what we've got here," a CAB member said, but the board ultimately chose a neutral stance at this meeting and adopted "no position" on CR 5.25 by motion.
On Commission Regulation 24.13 (Upland Game and Furbearer seasons and bag limits for 2025–26), the CAB supported the proposed changes as presented. The item included reinstating a turkey season for Unit 101 and timing changes for bobcat dates. Department staff noted partnering with Utah on a translocation request for up to 150 Merriam’s or hybrid turkeys to augment Nevada populations.
The CAB voted to approve amendments to Commission Regulation 25.01 (application deadlines and draw dates) and to support the list of heritage-tag vendors under Commission Regulation 25.04. The CAB also supported Commission Regulation 25.14, the 2026 Silver State turkey-tag proposal, noting the revenue potential from nonresident tags and the statewide interest in a single-state tag for turkey hunters.
Public comment during the regulation discussion included requests to reconsider split bag limits for chukar and Hungarian partridge in Elko County. "Maybe not for the rest of the state. Maybe just for Elko County," said Mike Stevens, a sportsman commenter, urging a local approach to combined or split bag limits.
Each motion was moved, seconded and adopted by voice vote at the CAB meeting; the CAB’s votes register advisory positions and will be forwarded to the Wildlife Commission for consideration at its public hearings.
