Pondera County’s county sanitarian told the board on June 11 that enforcement action is advancing against a Brady property the county has pursued for many years.
The sanitarian reviewed a history of outreach beginning in 2007 and said multiple letters and visits failed to secure voluntary cleanup. After recent signed complaints from neighbors and follow‑up inspections, the county went to court. The court found the defendant must pay restitution to cover county costs for removal of materials and must reimburse man‑hours and dump fees; the county has legal authority to abate the condition and remove property that meets the nuisance definitions in county ordinances.
The county sanitarian said the property owner has provided a money order toward pumping a portable toilet but has not yet had it pumped. She said the county will place junk‑vehicle release forms in the road crew office and expects to begin hauling vehicles with low estimated value (most under $500) and may remove a dilapidated mobile home under the county’s junk vehicle/abatement program once the fiscal year begins July 1.
Why it matters: Neighbors filed petitions asking the county to remove long‑standing refuse and hazards; county staff said the court order authorizes abatement and cost recovery.
