The Lake Washington School District board held a public hearing Aug. 4 on the proposed 2025–26 budget, hearing one public commenter who urged deeper, school‑level equity analysis; the board told the public it will take formal adoption action at its Aug. 18 meeting under Resolution No. 2410.
Marie Tres Schambach, an incoming fourth‑grade parent at Redmond Elementary, told the board she supports equity analysis broken out by individual schools rather than only districtwide or by primary/secondary groupings. “I urge the board and district’s administration to drill deeper into analysis focusing on enrollment numbers of individual schools and to ensure equity for the analysis to include the student demographics of these…individual schools to help meet the needs of students at high‑need schools,” she said.
Superintendent Dr. Homan and Associate Superintendent Posthumous reminded the board and public that the formal budget document to be adopted is the state F‑195 form and that the board must adopt the budget by resolution as required by state statute. Posthumous said the district posted the draft budget and supplemental sheets online and had not received public questions directed to staff as of the hearing.
The board opened the public hearing, heard Schambach’s comments on disparities she sees at Redmond Elementary — including higher rates of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch, English‑language learners and homelessness, plus facility limitations such as lack of a dedicated science or art room and absence of air conditioning — and then closed the hearing. Board materials state the district will act on the budget and associated tax levies during the Aug. 18 meeting; the record shows the board intends to adopt Resolution No. 2410 at that meeting.
Discussion at the hearing emphasized that the budget package includes required four‑year forecasts and tax levy information. Posthumous said staff has revised and scrubbed the F‑195 document to correct upload errors and will present a meritorious budget award draft at the next meeting. The board did not take the final adoption vote on Aug. 4.
The public hearing complied with the board’s stated process: the district published materials online and reserved action for the next regular meeting. The board invited additional public feedback before the Aug. 18 adoption vote.
The board’s formal adoption of the budget (Resolution No. 2410) is scheduled for the Aug. 18 board meeting; no adoption occurred on Aug. 4.
