The Palos School District 118 Board of Education on Tuesday reconfirmed its tentative 2025–26 legal budget and set a public hearing for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, at Palos West School. The board voted by roll call to approve the tentative budget and the hearing date.
Why it matters: Board members said the district expects a year-end surplus that will be used to fund capital projects promised to the community through the 2024 referendum.
The board’s finance committee reported the tentative budget is balanced and the committee chair said he anticipates a surplus at the end of the fiscal year, with most of that surplus slated for capital projects next summer. “The budget has been on display since August 6, and the public notice for this public hearing date has been running,” said Mr. Beilman, a district staff member who addressed the board during the budget reconfirmation.
Board members voted in favor during a roll call. Those recorded answering “yes” during the roll call were: Mr. Quinn; Mrs. Johnson; Mrs. Perez; Dr. Baker; Mr. Cox; and the board president (unnamed in the transcript). The motion to approve the tentative 2025–26 legal budget and set the hearing was moved and seconded during the meeting.
The reconfirmation does not finalize the budget; the public hearing is scheduled to allow community comment before the board adopts a final levy and legal budget as required by state law. The district posted the tentative budget for public review beginning Aug. 6.
