A staff update at the Payson City Council meeting on Aug. 20 informed councilors that the Utah Department of Transportation plans to resurface and restripe North Main Street (State Route 198 to the freeway) in 2027. A staff speaker said the UDOT proposal is to convert the segment to a center turn lane with two through lanes and shoulders, and that on-street parking would be removed if UDOT proceeds with that configuration. "They're gonna put a proposal is put a center median or not medium, but a center turn lane and then 2 through lanes and then a shoulder on each side. But all the parking will go away if we do that," a staff member told council. Councilors discussed safety tradeoffs, driveway access, and whether a study should be requested for additional signals at key intersections such as Fourth; staff noted previous traffic studies have not met signal-warrant thresholds but said they would continue to pursue input with UDOT. No formal action was taken by council at the meeting; staff will continue coordination with UDOT.
