Council schedules certification meeting and candidate-debate timeline after primary

Highland City staff confirmed election steps following the primary results and set key dates for the general election cycle. Staff said final vote tabulation will be available Aug. 26 and the council will hold a canvas/certification meeting that evening at 6 p.m.; the city will offer a Zoom link for members who wish to attend remotely but council members must sign the certification afterward. Staff noted write‑in candidate filing remains open through Aug. 29. Staff also reminded candidates advancing to the general election that the state requires updated candidate bios (due Sept. 5) and that the first campaign finance filings are due Oct. 7. Highland will host a candidate forum on Oct. 9 at 6 p.m.; staff asked for public question submissions and said staff will vet and pick questions for the forum format. Staff also said the county had about 184 ballots remaining to count as of the meeting and did not anticipate that countywide backlog to change outcomes for Highland races.
