LEDE: PED and its consultants have scheduled regional stakeholder meetings in August as part of a statewide engagement process linked to the Martinez/Yazzie educational equity work, the department told the committee.
NUT GRAF: The meetings are intended to collect community input on proposed components of an action plan tied to the court-ordered Martinez/Yazzie remedies and to inform PED’s planning. LESC said it will participate in each meeting to gather material and analyze district- and charter-level demographics to support committee oversight and potential legislative follow-up.
Details and schedule: PED listed in‑person sessions including Farmington, Espanola and Las Cruces on Aug. 5; Raton on Aug. 6; Santa Fe, Mescalero and Clovis on Aug. 7; Silver City, Zuni and Carlsbad on Aug. 14; an Albuquerque session on Aug. 20; and a virtual meeting on Aug. 26 to broaden access. LESC staff said it will send analysts with the PED events and will distribute demographic tables that identify, by district and charter, counts and percentages of students who are economically disadvantaged (direct certification), English learners, and students with disabilities — three student groups highlighted by the Martinez/Yazzie litigation and by committee members’ questions.
Speakers and intent: PEC Chair Becca Burtt described PEC’s performance framework as focused on individual student growth by subgroup; she said PEC has worked to align its performance framework to reveal achievement gaps. PED representatives described outreach plans and said the department would coordinate with charter schools and local districts to publicize meetings and encourage community participation.
Ending: PED, PEC and LESC officials asked legislators to attend or help publicize meetings in their districts. LESC said it will compile findings from the stakeholder events into a follow-up report to the committee and will provide the demographic tables referenced during the briefing.
