MPO staff reported a series of administrative and planning updates Wednesday, including a decision to seek outside web development support, a staff visit to Laredo for peer coordination, summary findings from a Highway 57 feasibility study and a request from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to add two transit plan approvals to a future agenda.
Mister Madera said website development has progressed slowly and that the MPO will seek quotes for a web developer to complete transparency and membership pages. He described a recent trip to Laredo where MPO and city staff met their Laredo counterparts and observed local outreach such as a bike rodeo.
On project studies, staff described a Highway 57 feasibility executive summary that recommends segmented, phased implementation of a four-lane divided alignment between Eagle Pass and I-35, but emphasized the study is a feasibility analysis only and that no construction funding has been identified. "At this point, it's just a feasibility study. There's no funding established for construction," Mister Madera said.
Staff also said FHWA informed the MPO that the board needs to take formal concurrence action on the region’s transit asset management plan and transit safety plan; both documents have been submitted to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and TxDOT with concurrence noted, but FHWA requested formal policy-board concurrence. Staff asked for these items to be added to the next policy-board agenda for formal action.
Board members asked staff to bring a TAC appointment change for the county at the next meeting. No public-comment speakers were registered during the meeting’s public-comment period.
