Project manager reports progress on elevated tank, street paving and TxDOT sidewalk project

City project manager Matthew (Matt) Julian briefed the City Council on construction and maintenance projects under way in Navasota.
Julian said welding and fabrication continue on the elevated storage tank. Street maintenance crews began asphalt resurfacing the prior week and had completed work on Woodrow Jackson, Tyler, Turner, Burton, Ninth Street, a section of West Virginia and People Street; Eighth Street remained under construction at the time of his report. On the Rosie Street project, crews poured a long section of sidewalk alongside the creek and poured a wall on the north side of the pedestrian bridge; Julian said forms remain for ramps on Brozick and Julia streets and the contractor is awaiting final approval from the Texas Department of Transportation for bridge components.
Julian also summarized a TxDOT sidewalk project on West Washington from Third Street to Eighth Street. He said TxDOT wanted to begin Sept. 2 but the contractor proposed a later start and actual work might begin Oct. 6, with the project currently estimated to run through Nov. 21. The work calls for modifications at the Washington intersection with the BNSF railroad that include a five-day window to complete the intersection work; TxDOT will coordinate communications and detours, Julian said. He said staff continue to look at temporary ramp options to manage a six-inch level change and maintain pedestrian access while bridge work proceeds.
Councilors asked clarifying questions about closures and access; staff said they would pass along TxDOT's schedule and detour information to citizens once confirmed.
