The Navasota City Council approved a request from the police department to outfit three patrol vehicles ordered in the previous budget cycle.
Chief of Police Mike Myers told the council two of the vehicles recently arrived at Texas Fleet Outfitters and the department sought authorization to proceed with outfitting. Myers explained the three vehicles serve different roles: a school resource vehicle (with a half-cage), a commercial motor-vehicle traffic unit (configured for crash investigation and inspections, with more storage and specialized gear) and a standard patrol Tahoe.
Myers said some high-cost systems (radios and radar units) were purchased separately earlier and that a donor is providing a specialized bumper system designed to safely stop a fleeing vehicle by engaging the tires; that donated item was not included in the purchase before council. Myers asked council to use previously budgeted funds to move forward; Mr. Gessner moved approval, Mr. Holt seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The department will forward the outfitter's work order after council authorization and proceed with installation as vehicles are prepared for service.
