Breckenridge officials outline $7 million in water and wastewater projects, cite TCEQ oversight and interim pump repairs

City officials and outside engineers told the Breckenridge City Commission on July 1 that several water and wastewater projects funded in part by Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) programs are nearing construction and that interim repairs are underway to keep the system operating and compliant with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
The city manager said the utility system was built to serve an estimated 30,000 people but now serves roughly 6,000 residents, leaving the city to maintain oversized infrastructure on a much smaller ratepayer base. "We have infrastructure for 30,000 people, and 6,000 people are paying for it," the city manager said.
