Engineering report: alley rehab, Taylor Road partnership and near‑complete police evidence facility

City engineering staff provided a monthly status report July 28 covering a range of smaller projects: alley rehabilitation in multiple sections, a Taylor Road partnership with the city of Mission, and a police evidence storage facility. Staff said the alley rehab was being done in phases A, B and C. Section A was roughly 20% complete with parts in construction and others in utility coordination; section C was approximately 16% complete with additional portions in utility coordination and construction. Staff noted the sensitivity of working in rear-yard areas and said contractors are coordinating closely with residents to reduce disruption. On Taylor Road, staff said the project is a partnership with the city of Mission and that Mission had already bid the project and is in the process of awarding a contract; staff said TxDOT typically takes about four to six months to issue official notice after Mission sends its recommendation letter. Staff also reported that a police evidence storage facility built where the parking garage had empty space was about 99% complete and in final punch‑out with police department walk‑throughs showing no major issues.
