Anzalduas inspection facility nears completion as federal equipment installation continues

Eduardo, a city staff member, told the commission that construction of the Anzalduas inspection facility was about 98% complete and that the site’s truck inspection bays and interior work are nearing final punch list stages. He said the facility includes about 60 inspection bays for cargo and that the federal government’s Customs and Border Protection (CBP) team is on site to install and test nearly-infrared identification (NII) equipment; staff said the federal testing and equipment installation are thorough and a prerequisite to formal turnover to CBP. Eduardo said the bridge department must also clear the project before the city can turn the facility over for federal operations. Photos presented to the commission showed substantial interior finish work, installation of furniture and final cleaning. Eduardo said the contractor is coordinating outstanding punch‑list items with staff and that the next major step is federal equipment commissioning and testing.
