At the Aug. 19 meeting LMPO staff summarized revised federal guidance for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) formula program. Staff said the guidance authorizes state departments of transportation to revise previously approved deployment plans and to proceed to spend previously allocated NEVI funds; under the revision, states have 30 days to submit a revised EV deployment plan.
Staff noted that under earlier guidance roughly 84% of previously allocated NEVI funds remained unspent; the revised guidance reduces plan content to statutory and regulatory requirements, reduces consultation requirements and aligns community engagement with regulatory requirements. The guidance also allows states to set their own spacing standards for charging stations and determine when buildout is complete.
The committee received the informational update; staff did not recommend any specific local action at this time.
