Commission forwards Title 12 road-standards update to fix omitted standard plans and clarify construction details

The County Planning Commission recommended that the Board of County Commissioners adopt amendments to Title 12 to add and reference the county's standard plans for roads, turnarounds, driveways and survey monitoring that were unintentionally left out of a prior code update. Staff said public-works representatives and a review committee of developers, city and county engineers had previously developed the standard plans during a 2024 Title 12 update but the drawings were not included in the published code. The proposed amendment reintroduces those standard plans as referenced attachments or hyperlinks, clarifies typical roadway cross-sections, and removes outdated references. Public Works staff explained that the standards clarify dimensions and requirements used in plan review, and include established maximum roadway grades (12 percent standard; up to 15 percent with specified mitigation) and approved turnaround designs for cul-de-sacs. Commissioners confirmed there were no substantive changes to the standards since the review process and that the update restores and clarifies existing technical guidance. The commission voted to recommend approval and will forward the proposed Title 12 revisions to the Board of County Commissioners for final action.
