Clallam County planning commission reviews comprehensive plan update, flags deadlines and major topics

At a Planning Commission work session, county planning staff reported that public outreach for the comprehensive plan update is complete and that staff has condensed input into a draft the commission can use to shape final documents.

The summary released to commissioners combines comments from three sources — public outreach meetings, an online survey and letters or emails — and, staff said, “I think there was a 109 total comments that were distilled into this report.” The draft will be presented in a color-coded format so readers can see whether language is reorganized (green), staff- or consultant-recommended edits (red) or wording suggested by public testimony (blue), staff said.

Why it matters: staff said the county must adopt several core pieces of the update to meet state requirements and preserve eligibility for some grants and programs. Staff told the commission the comprehensive plan update, the critical areas ordinance and the housing-related portions of the zoning code all must be adopted “by the 30 first” to comply with state timelines and avoid funding risks.
