Tom Dean, director of Public Works, briefed the board on the Copco Road overlay project and said heavy equipment still on site will push the major construction phase from this year to next.
"After hearing from the public and learning that there is heavy equipment in the area that will not be removed this year, we are going to push the major construction phase of this from this year to next year," Dean said. He told the board crews will still do culvert work, pull ditches and conduct necessary maintenance this season so that, if the region has a wet winter and drainage improves, construction can begin earlier in the spring and summer next year.
Dean said the plan is not to stop all work but to delay the major construction to give the other operator time to remove heavy equipment; he noted that when construction begins next year only one minor project will remain on the other operator’s side, involving a couple of dump trucks and a medium excavator for culvert repair. He described those remaining machines as "nothing of concern for the public works."
