County, Forest Service revisit Mountain House Road roadside‑clearance project after contractor bids exceed available funding

The county and Forest Service plan to meet to reassess whether to increase the project funding or rescope the contract to fit available funds.
Davis stressed the project’s importance to community safety: Mountain House Road serves Downeyville, Goodyears, Pike and Alleghany and is “the only viable two‑wheel‑drive road” linking those communities to lower‑elevation routes during an evacuation. Board members expressed support for finding a solution and asked staff to explore options with the Forest Service and potential contractors.
No new contract was awarded at the meeting; staff will return with refined scope options and any requested funding adjustments.
