The Sierra County Board of Supervisors voted to approve a resolution of intent to allocate Title III funds — up to $74,521.01 — to the Sierra County Fire Safe Council to support a retooled green-waste program.

Rod Revell, executive director of the Sierra County Fire Safe Council, told the board the program would expand the prior "trailer" approach to allow communities flexibility to use dumpsters, organized shipping days or contract chipping crews depending on local needs. Revell said individualized approaches are necessary because each community has different logistics and economics for handling brush and green waste.

County staff said the allocation would be one part of a broader effort; supervisors and staff discussed using the initial funds to build program capacity and then pursue larger grants or equipment purchases (for example, a horizontal grinder) to scale countywide operations.

The board moved, seconded and approved the resolution of intent; staff said a master agreement with the Fire Safe Council will be updated and an implementing addendum will follow to document how Title III funds will be expended. Supervisors noted the program could reduce pressure on county transfer stations that have limited capacity for green waste.
