The Sierra County Board of Supervisors approved a rewritten memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the County and the Deputy Sheriffs Association covering the period March 1, 2025, through Feb. 29, 2028.
Risk and personnel staff presented the finalized MOU as the product of several months of negotiation, including substantial revisions to modernize language and clarify employment provisions. The county’s negotiators and DSA representatives reached agreement on wage adjustments and other employment terms, staff said.
Risk management staff and the sheriff both thanked negotiators for the effort. "It was a heavy lift," one presenter said, thanking employees and county negotiators for clarifications and compromises reached during the rewrite.
The board moved to approve the MOU as presented; the clerk conducted a roll call and recorded aye votes from the supervisors. The MOU takes effect March 1, 2025, and runs through Feb. 29, 2028, a leap-year termination date explained by the contract’s March 1 start date.
No amendments were recorded at the time of the vote; staff said signatures would follow and that the board would celebrate completion after execution.
