Rotary Club of Merced Sunrise plans 2,025‑flag Field of Honor for Nov. 9

A representative of the Rotary Club of Merced Sunrise told the Board of Supervisors on Aug. 12 that planning is underway for the 2025 Merced Field of Honor at Merced College. The event’s opening day is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025, and the club plans to display 2,025 U.S. flags to honor active duty service members, veterans and first responders, including sheriffs, police officers and firefighters.
The speaker said the Field of Honor is free to the public and supported by sponsors and community volunteers. The event organizers highlighted presenting sponsors Joseph Gallo Farms and the Peter J. Gallo Veterans Resource Center at Merced College. The program includes an eighth‑grade student outreach element: five veteran docents will meet with more than 300 eighth‑grade students to share service experiences, teach flag history and provide a guided campus tour to connect students with educational opportunities.
Event organizers invited board members and residents to visit the field in November and thanked the board for prior support.
