County facilities staff and the CEO said Chester Park had experienced significant damage and the library museum contains material described by staff as "priceless," prompting a priority installation. Staff said the initial contract is one of several planned camera installs across county properties.
The board discussed data-retention, signage and regulatory requirements for public‑agency cameras. County staff said there is no statutory requirement to reinstate cameras if removed, but if the county maintains cameras the recorded data retention period is a county policy decision with state law guidance; department heads can specify retention. The county noted the need to budget storage and management of recordings because specialized, secured cameras and anti‑hack measures increase costs.
