Merced County treasurer: 8,760 unsecured tax bills mailed; payments due Sept. 2

Karen Adams, Merced County treasurer and tax collector, told the Board of Supervisors during public comment on Aug. 12 that county staff mailed 8,760 unsecured tax bills totaling more than $28,000,000 on July 20, 2025. Adams said this year unsecured taxes are due Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, because Aug. 31 falls on a weekend and the following Monday is a holiday.
Adams reminded taxpayers that “failure to receive a bill does not remove the taxpayer’s responsibility to pay timely to avoid penalty,” and urged taxpayers who have not received a bill to contact the treasurer’s office or access bills online. She also encouraged residents to sign up for e‑bills and tax notifications on the county website. For questions about property values or to report a closure or disposal of business personal property, Adams directed taxpayers to contact the assessor’s office. “If the assessor does a role correction, the auditor controller will issue that refund promptly,” she said.
The announcement covered unsecured business personal property such as aircraft and boats as well as other non‑real property assets. Adams closed by inviting questions to her staff and thanking the board for the opportunity to speak.
