Board awards $7.02 million contract for Vernon Hills West pump-station main replacement

The Lake County Board approved a contract with Boulder Contractors Inc. of Cary, Illinois, for the Vernon Hills West Pump Station force-main replacement project in the amount of $7,020,250 and authorized an emergency appropriation from public-works reserve funds. Member Jennifer Clark introduced the measure Aug. 12 and said the work is a budgeted capital improvement. She thanked Director Austin McFarland and the Village of Vernon Hills for coordinating scheduling so the county could advance the project several months earlier than planned. The board held a roll-call vote on the joint resolution authorizing contract execution and the emergency appropriation; the motion passed. The resolution moves forward with the firm award and funding appropriation to allow the county and the Village of Vernon Hills to proceed with the replacement work. County staff said the project is a capital improvement and will be funded from the public-works reserve; the contract and appropriation will permit procurement and construction to proceed under county procurement rules.
