Grundy County schedules Sept. 3 meeting to coordinate behavioral health services after state-ordered shutdown

Grundy County officials said Aug. 25 they will host a large interagency meeting on Sept. 3 to coordinate behavioral health services following the state-ordered shutdown of the county's Behavioral Health Division earlier this year.

The meeting, set for the EMA Room, will bring together about 17 organizations that have stepped forward to provide behavioral-health and substance-use services, county staff said. Family Guidance will introduce itself and outline a triage approach intended to help county residents who seek help at county facilities to reach the most appropriate provider quickly.

Why it matters: county residents seeking behavioral health or substance-use help may present to the county building; the coordination effort aims to reduce delays and ensure callers and walk-ins are routed to the right local provider based on clinical need, location and financial eligibility.

Details from the meeting: Drew (county staff) said Family Guidance has been working with the Sheriff's Department on substance-use and behavioral-health encounters and may take office space in the county building to help triage walk-ins and calls. The Sept. 3 meeting will introduce Family Guidance to other partner organizations and establish a network for warm handoffs and referral placement (examples discussed included North Central and Crossroads as receiving providers depending on case factors).

Committee reaction: members thanked staff for convening partners and expressed support for a streamlined triage approach. No formal vote or appropriation was taken at the Aug. 25 committee meeting; the Sept. 3 convening is a staff-led coordination meeting.

Next steps: the county will host the Sept. 3 meeting; Family Guidance and partners will develop a triage/referral protocol and coordinate local office space and warm-transfer procedures to help residents access services more efficiently.
